The Sounds, May 8, 2009, Varsity Theater

The Sounds
May 8th, 2009
Varsity Theater, Minneapolis, MN

The Sounds struck the Varsity Theater Friday night with restless lyrics and crystal synths preceded by an interesting opera-like intro track. This lead into an entourage of old favorites like “Living In America” to tracks from their upcoming album, Crossing the Rubicon.

A formidably crafted set containing an guitar solo break that evoked slight feelings of classic Queen kept things moving without a dull moment. I couldn’t help but keep wishing that The Sounds could have been featured on 1999′s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Their dance ready synth-punk sounds would have helped anyone ollie higher.

As Prefix Magazine said of The Sounds’ 2006, Dying To Say This To You, “Yes, the Sounds’ music starts to blur together, but what a blur.” –Jake Szymanski

does anyone know what the opera-like song was, right before the concert?
