Oberhofer unleash earwigs on Time Capsules II, head to Minneapolis April 2

I’ve been so lost in a mix of my vintage vinyl collection and a crap-ton of new electronic music that it was time to indulge in a wee bit of indie rock.

But this is where neglection of reading a single music blog or media outlet bites me, and I quickly bow to the mercy of my inundated inbox. There at the top of the box this evening is an email about 21 year-old Brad Oberhofer’s new LP, Time Capsules II. Produced by Steve Lillywhite (The Psychedelic Furs, The Pogues and Phish, among many others), the 10 track album is filled with all the pop hooks — whistling, choral chants, strings, keys, secondary melodies and the odd decrescendo pullback to bells and/or organ. But there are simply too many layers and multi-instrumentation to be gimmick.

Here’s the single:

MP3: Oberhofer – “Heart”

With the indie pop sensibility of a Modest Mouse with the radiant texture of a Jonquil, I think this 21 year-old has a long future ahead of him.

Oberhofer will be playing at 7th Street Entry with Pond on April 2nd. Time Capsules II is out March 26th on Glassnote Records.
