Last Saturday was Record Store Day, and we told you about a cool offering from Domino Record Company called Smuggers Way.
I got one on the mail this week (after RSD, but I picked up plenty of vinyl last week as it was), and just have to share.
It’s part zine, part single pack.
The zine is 24 pages of original art and prose from the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Ade Blackburn (Clinic) and Conor O’Brien (Villagers). I used to manage/curate a zine back in Iowa, and it was great to page through the long form prose and illustrations from artists better known for their musical talents.
The flexi discs… oohh, the possibilities of the flexi discs. Nested in the back of the zine are five cellophone-like mini records featuring unreleased songs from Dirty Projectors, Real Estate, Cass McCombs, John Maus, and Villagers. When they say flexi, they mean flexible. No worries about snail mailing these suckers.
Here’s a bit of unboxing video and a short demo of Cass McComb’s “Teachers”
Here’s “In My Car” from Real Estate…
