It’s snowing again…
By Greg Swan, on January 13th, 2011%
So why not change up your listening schedule with some down-tempo stuff.
For example, Husband wife duo, Tennis, make their Fat Possum debut on January 18 with the release of Cape Dory, a lo-fi LP inspired by a seven month sailboat adventure.
Here’s the single, “Pigeon.”

LAME: First Avenue erasing its stars, moving to American Idol system

I’m a day late to the news that historic First Avenue is whitewashing its legendary stars and replacing them with newer, hipper bands as voted by the fans on Facebook and Twitter.
I’m swallowing vomit as I type this.
I truly respect First Avenue as the rock mecca that it is and wish if they had to paint it, that they would restore each star just as it was. Real music fans don’t want to see pop stars and “it” bands like Lady Gaga, Kei$a and Miley Cyrus have stars on First Ave . . . → Read More: LAME: First Avenue erasing its stars, moving to American Idol system

The Dead Weather liven up First Avenue
By Greg Swan, on July 28th, 2009%
My expectations were set high. Not only was this “Jack White’s new band” and “Alison Mosshart’s newest project,” The Dead Weather‘s debut release, Horehound, was a phenomenal 11-track lesson in blues, rock and soul. How would it translate live? Would Jack White hide in the shadows the whole show? Would the Raconteurs guys get to play any notes?
A sold out First Avenue crowd milled around the venue Monday night, anxiously pounding $6 PBR tallboys and sharing Jack White minutiae: “Did you hear he was at Murray‘s last night?” “The guy next to me in the restroom said he saw Jack get . . . → Read More: The Dead Weather liven up First Avenue
