Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on releasing an album in 2011

Read the whole thing here.

Excerpts below.

It seems to have become harder to own music in the traditional way, on a physical object like a CD, and instead music appears the poor cousin of software, streamed or locked into a portable device like a phone or iPod. I buy hardly any CDs now and get my music from many different sources: Spotify, iTunes, blog playlists, podcasts, online streaming – reviewing this makes me realise that my appetite for music now is just as strong as when I was 13, and how dependent I am upon digital delivery. At the same . . . → Read More: Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on releasing an album in 2011

Thom Yorke: The World Won't Miss the Music Industry

Flickr CC: calmlittlecentre

Via Digital Music News:

…Thom Yorke is telling bands to skip the machine. In a recent interview, Yorke warned young artists that the music industry establishment is a “sinking ship” with “months rather than years” before a collapse.

Instead of hitching to that hull, the singer urged bands to self-release, and keep control in turbulent times. “I guess I would say, don’t tie yourself to the sinking ship because, believe me, it’s sinking,” Yorke said. The interview was conducted for the not-yet-released Rax Active Citizen Toolkit, oddly a textbook…

Radiohead Contest to Celebrate Collector Edition Releases of 2000-2003 Albums

While the world is buzzing about “new” Beatles albums today, just a couple weeks ago Capitol/EMI released Radiohead’s Kid A (2000), Amnesiac (2001) and Hail To The Thief (2003) in expanded “Collectors Edition” and limited “Special Collectors Edition” packages.

Radiohead : “Everything In It’s Right Place” (win stream)

Radiohead : “National Anthem” (win stream)

Radiohead : “Optimistic” (live) (win stream)

Each “Collectors Edition” includes the original album plus a second CD of rarities, including radio sessions and live recordings. Each “Special Collectors Edition,” in deluxe, lift-top box packaging, includes both audio discs and adds a DVD with various video clips, as well as a series . . . → Read More: Radiohead Contest to Celebrate Collector Edition Releases of 2000-2003 Albums

nIEckleback web browser: Rock Out Your Internet!

Nickelback has its own special version of IE 8 — touted as “optimized for Live Nation.” LOL.

According to Digital Music News,
“Indeed, this is not the standard version of IE 8, but one that includes some newer features. That includes ‘InPrivate’ browsing, a mode that does not record page histories, and ‘Web Slices,’ essentially mini-browsers for limited functions like stock quotes and weather. In exchange for the upgrade, fans get an unreleased Nickelback live track and access to webisode content.”

It’s funny how similar these capabilities are to Firefox plug-ins. I’m still in the process of installing it, but it’s difficult . . . → Read More: nIEckleback web browser: Rock Out Your Internet!

Will Cocktail Make You Buy Albums?

I’ve read countless articles that opine for the days of sitting on your bed staring at gigantic vinyl LP artwork while an album plays on a giant turntable in the background. It’s safe to say those days are dead, although there’s certainly a future for added-value album assets in the interactive realm.

For me — aside from the ultimate fan-boy, lust-after-anything-they-release bands (e.g., Radiohead, Dream Theater) — I tend to shy away from interactive extras and special release albums with bonus tracks. I just want the album, and I want to immediately rip it into digital form easily.

I’ll be the first to . . . → Read More: Will Cocktail Make You Buy Albums?

The sequel to the original Jaydiohead came out over the weekend. It has five all new tracks.
