Paul Turner : Clear Blue

Australia’s Paul Turner brings his rootsy folk to Acadia Cafe on Sunday, November 9th. He’s touring on his new album, Clear Blue, came out earlier this month on White Lotus Records.

UPDATE from the PR Firm: Unfortunately, we were just informed that the Minneapolis show was cancelled by the venue without explanation. Paul Turner’s manager has been trying to contact Arcadia Café to work something out, but so far they’ve had no luck.

Check out the guitar work, falsetto and rock guitars on this slow-builder:

Ticket giveaway: O'Death at 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis

O’Death’s new Broken Hymns, Limbs and Skin album on Kemado Records is a whiskey-fueled devil dance of American macabre. Sounding like a modern day Charlie Daniels Band fronted by Les Claypool, it’s immediately apparent the New York quintet is redefining the hoedown/saloon genre. I’ll drink to that.

O’Death : “Lowtide” (mp3)

O’Death’s Minneapolis gig is November 10 at the 7th Street Entry, I managed to get my grubby little hands on two tickets. Want them?

E-mail us with O’Death in the subject line, and I’ll have the intern pick one randomly out of my fiddle case the week before the show. Congrats . . . → Read More: Ticket giveaway: O'Death at 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis

They may be named after an ABBA song, but honeyhoney pull influences from Ella, Etta and Nina. I can see Suzanne Santo becoming the next Stefani.

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals : Cardinology

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals new album, Cardinology, hits stores this week on Lost Highway Records.

Adams, if you haven’t heard, is still sober. He’s writing good, yet predictable songs sure to be gobbled up by the masses. To that point, Cardinology is less about alt-country and more about Top 40 adult rock.

Here are a few streams off the new disc:

Perfect Porridge Indy Band Marketing Tips: Web Domains

Last night I spoke to Matt Wilson’s MCAD class about music/band marketing. They were a super smart group of students working on projects for STOOK!, The Invincible Kids, Dance Band, Military Special and Kristoff Krane.

My approach to marketing a band is akin to consumer product roll-out and positioning strategies, and I spent a lot of time listening and responding to their specific local band challenges and opportunities using insight from both my day job and this here music blog.

In honor of the class, I’m going to start a series of indy band tips here at PerfectPorridge.com.

Some of this is common sense, . . . → Read More: Perfect Porridge Indy Band Marketing Tips: Web Domains
