Review: Tim and Eric bring an awkward Chrimbus to Minneapolis

Special guest review by Doug Hamlin, who would like the Internet to bring him a sandwich.

Typically when I am at the State Theatre, it is to buy tickets for a show at the Orpheum across the street. So I tried to remember what the last actual performance I saw at the State was, and I settled on “The Nutcracker” in 2003. (Sadly, this means I’ve missed some really great shows during the past seven years.)

Wednesday night’s performance of “Adult Swim Presents Tim & Eric Awesome Tour Great Job Chrimbus Spectacular 2010″ was exactly like “The Nutcracker” in every way.

Wolfmother, State Theater, November 14, 2009

Australian rockers Wolfmother simply rocked the State Theater on Saturday night. Unapologetically wearing Sabbath and Zeppelin influence on their sleeves, the quartet pounded out power chords, falsetto wails and bewitching guitar solos culled from the group’s self-titled debut and recent Cosmic Egg release.

The setlist itself set the show up to be a success. The group kicked off with “Dimension,” and the crowd — your typical selection of college hipsters, rock elitists, drunk 40 year-olds giving high fives and glammed up girlie girls — ate up every note. Favorites selections included “White Feather,” “White Unicorn,” “Cosmic Egg” and “Joker & The Thief” . . . → Read More: Wolfmother, State Theater, November 14, 2009

It's Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra ticket day!

Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra and Cage the Elephant will play Minneapolis’ State Theater on August 10. These are three great bands, and it’s safe to say I’m fairly psyched for this show. Tickets go on sale at noon.

Silversun Pickups are touring on their new album, Swoon, which has already surpassed the 100k sales mark. Lead single “Panic Switch” recently ranked #1 on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Songs chart — even more impressive since it’s been 11 years since an independent artist hit #1.

Manchester Orchestra are touring on their sophomore release, Mean Everything to Nothing and are giving away a free download . . . → Read More: It's Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra ticket day!
