Silversun Pickups had more fun than me at State Theatre last night

The LA “it” band Silversun Pickups played a packed house at the State Theatre in Minneapolis last night, where zero stage decoration, a plain black curtain and minimal lighting effects made the evening all about the music.

I first wrote about SSPU back in July 2005 with their Pikul EP, became a fan, and then was thrilled to spin their debut full-length, Carnavas, in 2006. But their new album, Swoon, is the one making waves with the hipsters and mainstream, and the band took it humbly in stride Monday night.

It's Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra ticket day!

Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra and Cage the Elephant will play Minneapolis’ State Theater on August 10. These are three great bands, and it’s safe to say I’m fairly psyched for this show. Tickets go on sale at noon.

Silversun Pickups are touring on their new album, Swoon, which has already surpassed the 100k sales mark. Lead single “Panic Switch” recently ranked #1 on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Songs chart — even more impressive since it’s been 11 years since an independent artist hit #1.

Manchester Orchestra : Mean Everything To Nothing

Manchester Orchestra‘s new album, Mean Everything To Nothing, is my new favorite evening commute disc.

The Atlanta band’s sound has the raw authenticity of early Cursive, the southern emotive turmoil of Raleigh’s Annuals and enough youthful naivete not to know or care they aren’t the greatest band on the planet. Good for them.

Manchester Orchestra : “The Only One” Video

Starting today, Atlanta indie band Manchester Orchestra debut a new video chapter representing each song on their forthcoming record, Mean Everything To Nothing. The videos will premiere on a different site leading up to and after the April 21 street date.

This is the video for “The Only One.” I’m personally looking forward to the video for “I’ve Got Friends” (stream it here).
