Children : Hard Times Hangin' At The End of the World

New York metal band Children‘s new album, Hard Times Hangin’ At The End of the World, reminds me a lot of mid-80′s Metallica (think Ride the Lightning).

And since Metallica cut their hair and started using their fans, maybe the clouds have perfectly aligned for this Kemado Records band to tear. it. up.

Here’s the group’s single, “Power Spirit”

Shuta Hasunuma : Pop Ooga Plus

Glitch music is one of my recherché music genres of choice these days.

In the case of Shuta Hasunuma’s new double LP release, Pop Ooga Plus, glitch is an ethereal head-trip filled with childlike wonder and painting moodscapes that churn out aural acid from chocolate fountains on lollipop mountains.

Here’s a track off the new album:

The Rockford Mules : From Devil’s Spit to Angel Tears

Minneapolis grit-rockers The Rockford Mules have a new album out, From Devil’s Spit to Angel Tears and play a CD Release show at The Uptown this Saturday with The Tisdales.

I highly recommend “Step Aside, Son,” which would have been my theme song junior year of high school.

Tonight: The Dusty Strobe Lights CD Release Show, Bryant Lake Bowl

If you’re a fan of the more low-key Flaming Lips material, check out Umbrella Sequence member Jacob Swogger’s electro-folk side project, The Dusty Strobe Lights.

Although the band claims the EP is music written by werewolves as transcribed by anthropomorphic synthesizers, I think it just as easily could be music written by hermit crabs as transcribed by evil four-headed mermaids who reek of patchouli.

Stream a few tracks here.

Monsters at Work : "Magic Morning" (mp3)

Note to self: It’s not Monday; it’s Tuesday.

Time for some British nu-psychedelica culled from Pete Fowler’s (Super Furry Animals) underground comic, Monsterism.

Lo Recordings and Welsh psych-illustrator Pete Fowler are offering a free mp3 download from Brazilian DJs/producers Monsters at Work aka Dinho and Renata Poletto for “Magic Morning,” off Fowler’s forthcoming release, A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Island.

Well-known for designing the artwork for the Super Furry Animals, Fowler’s A Psychedelic Guide to… surrounds his animated Monsterism Island series and contains original compositions, ranging from monstrous rock fry ups to electronic exotica via psychedelic folk and spooky krautrock. The album features Gruff . . . → Read More: Monsters at Work : "Magic Morning" (mp3)
