Learning Music Monthly introduces me to Mooey Moobau

I’ve been listening to Learning Music Monthly‘s new September album, Friends Who Are and am really enjoying it.

Learning Music Monthly is a subscription based album-a-month series that’s a great resource if you’re looking to discover some out-of-the-box music (that doesn’t suck — important distinction).

September’s issue of LMM is a selection of remixes by John Wood and Lisa Tremain. Here’s the lead track:

Mooey Moobau : “Friends Who Are Fathers” (mp3)

Mooey Moobau is the alter-ego of Joe Tepperman, a speech scientist who does research for a large language software company. He creates some intense glitch/noise/freak music. Check out the track “What Can I . . . → Read More: Learning Music Monthly introduces me to Mooey Moobau

I’m not a big fan of The Used myself, but this is the first time I’ve seen this kind of marketing tactic and just had to share:
On Monday August 31st THE USED will rock the Twitter-sphere with the FIRST EVER 24-hour tweet-for-ticket album listening party for fans. The admission? ONE TWEET GETS YOU IN. Built by Culture Jam Labs and Warner Bros Records, the virtual listening party for Artwork, the new album from The Used, will give fans the chance to stream the entire album in exchange for one tweet on the release date. The millenial generation's Koyaanisqatsi: Sufjan Stevens' The BQE

Although I studied classical music in college and was a regular patron of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra growing up, I have little doubt that reviewing a new classical album would never have happened if it didn’t have Sufjan Stevens name attached to it.

The BQE is a film and musical suite — composed by Sufjan Stevens — exploring New York City’s Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The performance featured 36 performers including a band, a wind and brass ensemble, string players, a horn section, projected film footage of the expressway and five hula hoopers.

I received an advance review copy of the album and listened . . . → Read More: The millenial generation's Koyaanisqatsi: Sufjan Stevens' The BQE

Sunbears make you feel alive

Sunbears, the indie/ psychedelic/ electronic pop duo from Jacksonville, Florida, want you to strip off your shirt, blare this track and run around screaming the neighbors.

Zydecosis debut classic rock zydeco cover album

I have an unshakeable hankering for good barbeque these days, and this new Zydecosis classic rock cover album is making my stomach rumble.

Louisana’s Steve Junot and company rifled through their vinyl LP collection to pull out favorite classic rock tunes like The Who’s “Baba O’ Riley,” The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction,” Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls,” Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid,” Bad Company’s “Feel Like Making Love” and more.

Believe me, you just haven’t lived until you’ve heard Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with accordion and washboard.
