Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome! Exclamation Point!
By Greg Swan, on September 30th, 2009%
The swizzle stick of a headrush known as the Yo Gabba Gabba childrens’ television program is a huge hit at my house — with me. Don’t get me wrong, my three year-old likes it and all, but I love it.
When DJ Lance looks up from his ghetto blaster and tells us to “get the sillies out” and “go crazy,” I just can’t help but rock out.
Add really good bands to the mix — Jack Black, MGMT, The Shins, The Ting Tings — and you’ve just found childrens’ programming that neither sucks nor is lame. Where was this type of show “back . . . → Read More: Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome! Exclamation Point!

Xenophanes was a Greek philosopher, poet, and social and religious critic of the 5th century BC whose conception of the universe supposed that everything in existence has always existed.
If that’s true, living guitar legend Omar Rodriguez Lopez already wrote Xenophanes and released it on his own Rodriguez Lopez Productions, and the big CD release for this album on November 10th is just an anniversary of something that has existed for eternity.
And you’ve already heard the single off the album — probably as familiar as Jingle Bells by now — so don’t even bother listening to this mind blowing piece . . . → Read More: Omar Rodriguez Lopez releases Xenophanes

Scandinavian Internet radio stations through iTunes

CC: Lisa Norwood
This is fun for a Friday. My friend Ruth Marie Sylte shares how to get Scandinavian Internet radio stations through iTunes over at Multe Music.
She translated it from a Norwegian blog, and it gives instructions on how you can import a fairly complete list of Internet radio stations (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish – pick one or all three) into iTunes. The stations are everything from the national broadcast stations to various musical styles to student university stations.

They may not be able to spell, but Jump Clubb know how to rock. Choosing to stay anonymous in a town built on celebrity, the Beverly Hills indie-lo-fi band showcase everything that’s good about insecurity and shallowness. RIYL The Notwist, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip.
Here’s a taste of their debut LP, The Love Of No Dance, coming out October 6th…

Imelda May brings her Irish rockabilly to the states
By Greg Swan, on September 23rd, 2009%
I keep getting pitch after pitch for Imelda May and just finally looked her up.
Holy crap.
Dublin-born rockabilly singer?
Hand picked by Jools Holland?
Jazz sensibility?
Okay…I suppose it was worth eight (8!) pitches.
Here’s the single off her debut album, Love Tattoo, which hit the US last month:
