I was asked to help judge the Full Throttle: Battle of the Bands this weekend, and it was an insane experience.
A strange band line-up, stranger event program and general weirdness permeated the evening. I kept a running narrative of the events, and this is what I wrote as the evening transpired…
The Fine Line is gorgeous but expensive. I’m judging a battle of the bands here and had to come 2 hours before I normally hit a concert. The first band, Hollywood Burnout, was already playing when I came in and seemed to be hitting all covers.

Full Throttle Battle of the Bands, Saturday Sept 12

The Full Throttle Battle of the Bands will showcase locally and nationally recognized bands — competing for their chance to have their original son in the Minnesota racing movie Full Throttle — on Saturday, September 12 at the Fine Line Music Café.

Hollywood Burnout
Douglas Acres
Bren
The Alarmists
Melismatics
The winner, in addition the $1000 all the bands receive, gets five hours in Fuzzy Slippers Studio to record their song, the opportunity to have a cameo in “Full Throttle” and have their song featured in the movie.
