Merry Christmas from Perfect Porridge!

On behalf of myself, I’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas!

It’s been a heck of a ride here at Perfect Porridge these past six years, and I have to say 2010 has been one of the best so far. Not only did I welcome yet another little person into my beloved family on the home front this year, my day job and side gig writing on this here music blog have just been exploding.

My panel on music blogs at SXSW this year was a major career milestone and allowed me to develop a deeper relationship with (and understanding of) . . . → Read More: Merry Christmas from Perfect Porridge!

Greg Swan named to Twin Cities Top Ten Titans In Social Media 2010

Look Mom, I made a list.

The people who made the list have made an impact on Twin Cities society through using social media in the past year…One thing that that determined the winners is that they are people finding new ways to use social media and pushing the limits of the platforms they are using.

Nominations were open to the public and were taken from November 8 – November 30, 2010. Over 40 nominees were selected from the nominations received. From the pool of nominees a list of Top Ten Titans In Social Media were selected (by judges).

SXSWORLD Magazine featuring Perfect Porridge and friends

I finally got my grubby hands on a copy of the March Music issue of SXSWORLD Magazine.

It features my article on music blogs based on The State of Music Blogs in 2010 SXSW panel and borrows heavily from my 20 part interview series on the subject.

You guys were all super smart, so I quoted lots of friends here, including Junkyard Empire, Paragraphs, Andrea Swensson, David De Young, Taylor Carik, Marni Wandner and Jesse Ervin.

Except for the crazy big pictures of Jesse and me (I sent them others, I swear!), it turned out pretty well.

Check it out (click to enlarge, so it’s . . . → Read More: SXSWORLD Magazine featuring Perfect Porridge and friends

Greg on MPR talking about Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

I’m on Minnesota Public Radio’s Art Hounds today talking about Black Rebel Motorcycle Club:

Music blogger and Perfect Porridge founder Greg Swan has watched Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s music change from Zeppelin-esque psychedelic blues rock into folksy Americana, and then back again to bluesy garage rock. BRMC’s latest CD, “Beat the Devil’s Tattoo,” is an amalgamation of all those influences and more. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club takes the stage at First Avenue on Satuday, March 27th.

Snowmageddon 2009 – will any of us survive?

Last February my friend Doug and I created the “Snowmageddon” Twitter meme over our morning coffee.

The conversation was something like, “People are really freaking out about this storm. Let’s name it and get a top Twitter trend.” Then we laughed. Then we tweeted. Then we blogged. Then we created a logo and live Web cam to help fuel discussion throughout the day.

We can’t take all the credit, of course. The storm itself helped a lot. And the media. And the technology that allows freaked out snowmiacs to connect, collaborate and share. In fact, at one point Twitter users crashed TwitPic with . . . → Read More: Snowmageddon 2009 – will any of us survive?

New Addition to the Porridge Line-up

We added a new band member to the Porridge line-up last week.

When I called my Dad down in Florida to tell him the baby was here, I could hear Led Zeppelin’s “D’yer Mak’er” blaring in the background. I think that’s a good sign the expanded roster is going to take us all . . . → Read More: New Addition to the Porridge Line-up
